Storing Rare Wallets Between Catalog Sessions
How to prepare and store rare wallets before your inventory catalog appointment at System Maple Path.
Collectors often ask what to do with wallets in the week before a catalog session. The goal is simple: arrive with pieces in the same condition you want recorded.
Humidity
Leather stabilises best between 45% and 55% relative humidity. Jeonju summers exceed this range; if you store wallets in a basement or outer room, consider a small silica gel packet inside each dust bag — not touching the leather directly.
Handling Before the Visit
Avoid applying conditioner within ten days of your appointment. Fresh oils alter surface sheen and make stamp photography harder. Do wipe hardware with a dry microfibre cloth to remove fingerprint oils.
What to Bring
Gather original boxes, dust bags, authentication cards, and purchase receipts in one container. We photograph these alongside the wallet when provenance materials exist.
Travel to Our Office
Place each wallet in its dust bag, then in a rigid box with tissue padding. Never stack heavy items on top of structured bags — corner compression shows in condition sketches.
